Currently, dressing rooms are being impacted by a special technology called virtual reality. In addition, augmented reality is surfacing among the clothing industry. Most importantly, shoppers are receiving a unique shopping experience; sometimes even from the comfort of their home. Thus, we can expect more and more improvements to current and future fitting room systems and companies.

Dressing Room by GAP
Of course, large companies such as GAP are likely to use these machines to serve their current customers base. In fact, there is an article below you can view to better understand the impact of how retail stores are using this dressing room technology. In my opinion, the future is looking very interesting because of the whole unique shopping experience.
By and large, the GAP retail company is currently experimenting with customers and fitting them properly. So, shoppers can try on pieces of clothing, and if they like the clothing, they can buy it online. At this point, shoppers can use avatars to help understand how products will fit without actually walking into a physical dressing room space.

H&M Virtual Dressing Room
Personally, I do not shop at H&M as much as most people. However, I can attest to the climate and market in which H&M serves its customers. Meaning, H&M is in a strong position to implement this fitting room technology.
First and foremost, the store makes it easy to click and buy clothes.
UPDATE: As of December 12, 2013. According to one particular Facebook post, H&M decided to remove this feature from their website because it is not being used to its full potential.

Virtual Fitting Room Technology
No doubt, there is a lot of buzz around fitting room technology. Too, there are many passionate folks talking about the specific industry. Therefore, it is likely for us, in the next decade or so, to see noticeable advances in the business and consumer space. Ultimately, once there is a strong demand for this device, more and more competition will begin to appear. Similarly, competition is not a bad thing because it spawns more productivity and innovation.

Virtual Dressing Room Software
First, it is useful to imagine how the integration of software will serve virtual fitting room community. For example, Zugara is virtual dressing room technology provider optimized for multiple retail channels. At any rate, the company is focusing on social sharing and analytics to serve customers. Essentially, the company integrates with webcams and Kinect to communicate with shoppers.
Of course, the software is engaging for users. Presently, users interact with a camera to select different outfits and the whole experience motivates buyers to complete their purchase.

Virtual Fitting Room Kinect
First, augmented reality is the process of displaying additional visuals to the current reality in the form of pop-ups and miscellaneous communications. Be that as it may, the Kinect process involves a built-in camera which tracks a person’s body and superimposes over it a 3D model of the outfit. Further, the user is in control of the program and pushes virtual buttons.

mPort 3D Body Scanner

By the same token, the mPort website sales an app which can track a person’s body shape and measures one’s own health after each mapping session.
- Get the mPort App
- Get a 3D Body Map
- Choose a plan
At this time, mPort gives users access to a 3D avatar for $4.95 per month or $39.50 per year. In addition, subscribers can track their progress to improve their health. Actually, the mPod is located at L.A. Fitness in California. In my opinion, the mPod is going to expand to different cities.
